A Scottish fugitive accused of being extradited to the US is now facing photos of tattoos.
US prosecutors suspect he’s Nicholas Rossi. He is believed to have feigned his death in order to avoid being charged.
But, Arthur Knight claims to be 35 years old and is a victim to mistaken identity. He has never traveled to the US.
In 2008, he was accused of attacking and raping 21-year old woman in Utah.
David Kinloch, his lawyer, said that work was underway to establish the identity of the client being held at Edinburgh’s Saughton prison.
The Crown provided several photographs, which included tattoos and other evidence of Nicholas Rossi. My client was recommended to be photographed and examined.
That was done during an evening visit with Saughton. Counsel has the photos. I was there last Thursday.
Sheriff Kenneth Maciver, at an earlier hearing last month, stated it was not “rocket science”, to prove identity.
He was seen by video-link at HMP Edinburgh, in a wheelchair, and with an oxygen mask.
He replied, “No, Arthur Knight” when asked if he was Nicholas Rossi.
Kinloch requested the continuation of proceedings for another week because his client was not available to speak with him.
He was the one overseeing this week’s hearing. Sheriff Kenneth Campbell KC agreed to a third appearance, on 13 Oct.
