Tuesday saw the Waxahachie planning and zoning commission recommend a specific usage permit (SUP), for Chick-fil A to be situated at the northwest intersection S. Interstate 35E/Landmark Drive.
A 5,500-square-foot restaurant could be built using the SUP. It would have two stacking lanes that can accommodate 25 vehicles and 56 parking spaces. That’s 36 more than what the city needs. You could also drive-through. Landmark would be the entry and exit point.
Also part of the SUP request is a 75-foot pole sign, which is within the city’s standards.
Chick-Fil A officials stated that the restaurant should have 60 employees. It will be open from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays.
The City Council will vote on Tuesday.
Tattoo shop
The commission did not recommend a zoning request to allow for a tattoo shop within the Rogers Hotel at 100 N. College St.
Lost Veil Tattoo currently has a location at I-35E. They requested a zoning shift from Central Area District into Planned Development Central Area. At the moment, tattoo shops cannot be opened in Central Area zoning.
Three commissioners opposed the motion and three supported it. This item will now be before the City Council on Tuesday. Due to a tie vote, however, it will require a majority of three-fourths of the council votes for it pass.
Lost Veil Tattoo requested to operate in Suite 305, which is 550 square foot.
Eleana Tuley is the senior planner for the city. She stated that staff were concerned about the request and pointed out that this would be the third tattoo parlor in downtown if approved. According to her, the staff believe there are better locations in the city that could accommodate this type of use. They also stated that tattoo shops can be allowed in commercial zones.
She said if the commission recommended approval the staff suggested a few conditions, such as the zoning would only be for that suite and that the square footage wouldn’t change, the zoning can’t be transferred to another company, the hours don’t change from the existing 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Sundays unless a zoning amendment and that Lost Veil Tattoo would have to obtain a license from the Texas Department of State Health Services. Any exterior signage would have to be obtained from the city’s building department.
“It can go anywhere in town and be very visible and very out there,” said Commissioner Erik Test, who supported the request. “This is hidden in a hotel, across from a barber shop. And the fact is we’ve done other ones down there.”
