Star of Texas Tattoo Art Revival brings in clients and artists to Austin
The 20th annual event offers clients and tattoo artists alike opportunities.
AUSTIN Texas – Many tattoo artists and clients were attracted to the Star of Texas Tattoo Art Revival this weekend.
Jamie Martinez, who traveled from Oklahoma City to attend the convention, said, “So I follow Jedi so where he is, so I fly to get tattooed every 6 weeks or so.
“Jamie, a long-standing client of mine, is from further south San Antonio and she’s currently in Oklahoma. It’s kinda an ideal meeting spot for us both,” Jedidia Reid (tattoo artist at Element Tattoo, San Antonio) says.
Reid has been coming here to Austin since 1997 to participate in this convention. In his 17 years of experience, Reid has worked with people all over the world.
Reid states, “It’s cool that there’s an art and stuff from all around the world. You get to share your ideas and see the hot new trends.”
As they transformed their sketches into something more permanent, people were enthusiastic to participate in this convention.
Martinez says, “We collaborate together. I let him know my thoughts whether it’s commemorative or a family member, and he designs it, and we ink it.”
This weekend was filled with excitement and new opportunities for tattoo artists.
Kasha Wildbird, a tattoo artist, says that it’s a great opportunity to learn.
Jordan, a tattoo artist, says that it is a great way to get to know the artist and their techniques.
The Tattoo Show opened Friday to the Public and will continue through Sunday. Live tattooing is provided by masters from all styles, including traditional Japanese and photo-realistic colors.
There will be a full program of tattoo-related activities, including contests for tattoos, kids’ areas, and unique vendors.
This year will also feature special guests from other art worlds: from England, comic book legend Simon Bisley and from New York, “Ren & Stimpy” co-creator Bob Camp and low-brow artist Coop.
Show hours Sunday are noon-7 p.m. Tickets for the day pass are $25 or $60, respectively. Weekend passes are $60. Children under 12 years old can attend the show free of charge with an adult.
